Spring 2022 News

After a horrendous start to the year with record-breaking rainfalls, we are finally seeing some clearer days and the wind is starting to pick up. We are excited for the start of the season!
As the travel restrictions lifted we have enjoyed some International Travel, getting to Fiji and Fiona & Tully made it back to New Zealand for a visit!
We have helped some of our clients reach new skill levels in their progression, and push through flat spells with new skills, maximizing weather conditions and using the elements to our advantage.
Aaron was lucky to accompany some clients on a private boat in Fiji, training in Foiling, Wind Winging, Kite surfing and Surfing in some remote parts of the beautiful Fijian Islands.
On return to Australia it was a quick repack of the Van and time to drive north to Port Douglas where we had a custom Camp for nine clients. Ranging in abilities and with a few top coaches to assist Aaron we were able to deliver an action packed 7 days utilizing the magic spots up and around Port Douglas, Queensland.
We teamed up with the guys at Wind Swell and had 3 days onboard a boat heading out to the Great Barrier Reef to Kite a variety of spots. Other days spent in and around Port Douglas.
With Christmas zooming up fast keep us in mind as the perfect Christmas present for a loved one, giving the Gift of Adventure is an excellent idea and you can find a variety of Gift Certificates packages in our shop on our website. (https://www.earthkitesurfing.com/product-category/gift-certificates/ )
Earth Kite Surfing is also a great Christmas Party/function idea for your business or workplace, why not come down the beach, fly a kite, and have some laughs with your colleagues. We can also offer wind winging & hydro foiling two of the fastest growing water sports.

Wind Winging is so Hot right now, this is the fastest growing wind sport and is set to take over the number 1 spot in the next couple of years. There are many components to the sport, Foiling capabilities, Wind awareness and Wing Handling Skill’s; a good combination of these will allow you to accomplish the ride of your life.

If you need help to learn & progress or you have equipment queries please get in touch we would love to hear from you!
We hope you are all healthy, well and are enjoying the change of season.
We look forward to seeing you over the summer 22/23.
Team Earth.

Client Spotlight – Jack Born

We first met Jack when he came literally knocking at our door in Lennox Head looking for our shop, at that time Aaron was in Fiji working with Ben Wilson at Namotu, Jack was looking for lessons to get his skills up and ready for an upcoming trip to Namotu.

Hence when Aaron got back to Auz they got to work and that was in 2018, the rest is history!

Let us introduce Jack Born a dedicated waterman, dedicated to his progression and to a good product.
He was on our very first ‘Weekend Workshop’ and he has helped shape our business into what it is today, more lessons, more camps and workshops, lengthier periods of coaching, more customers and more froth.

We asked Jack a few questions, over to Jack.

What is your Favourite Watersport – Kitesurfing. Whether on twin tip, foil, surfboard, plank of wood… whatever works.

When did I start? 2018. So 4 years.

Tips
– Always have a new trick or skill you’re aiming for. Gives you something to strive for a push yourself.
– The fastest way to improve your kite skills is to learn how to do it in super light wind. Totally different skill set but once you learn it you’ll be so much better at kiting.
– Do at least 12 paid lessons per year to keep growing. No one is too good to skip coaching.
– Have someone film you kiting foiling or surfing. It’s often hard to watch when you see your mistakes but it’s the medicine you need to fix technique flaws.
– Learn safety and be safe. Avoid the stupid mistakes. Keep the beaches safe.

Favourite spot?
Namotu Fiji. Can’t wait to go back.

What kept you sane during COVID?
Getting out in the wind and surf. If the beaches had been shut down I might have gone completely psycho.

Favourite memory with Earth Kitesurfing?
So many. Great kite and foiling camps, maybe the first time I successfully rode a wave on a foil during a tow session with Aaron. Or maybe first time doing a back-roll. Like I said, lots to choose from.

Thank Jack.

Amazing – keep up the awesomeness!

Fi and the EKS Team!

Spring 2021 News

Hi to all our Wonderful friends and Clients all over the Globe and Australia.

We wanted to reach out and say Gidday, How are you?

We are hoping you have all been safe and Healthy throughout this global pandemic.
We have managed to stay healthy and sane throughout the past year and a half and have enjoyed more local and state adventure enthusiastic clientele.

Happily we have introduced Hydro Foil Camps and Wind Winging to our selection of Lessons.

Hydro Foiling has become so popular and we love sharing the buzz with our clients. We were super stoked to team up with James Casey, Tom Carroll and successfully delivered a week long Camp in our beautiful backyard of Ballina & Lennox Head in May.

Stay Tuned for more camps coming soon.

Wind Winging is an increasingly exhilarating relatively new wind sport, a cross between Windsurfing and Kite Surfing. There is slightly less gear and no kite lines to worry about and you can even Wind Wing in the park on a skateboard. Whow.

A really manageable sport to master even our four year old has had a go!

We are looking forward to a busy season with borders set to open November 1st Internationally. Other Australian states will be re opening before Christmas and we hope to get across to New Zealand for a family visit next April 2023. Yah it feels like a loong time since we have seen some of you.

Anyhow Winds up we Gotta go, get flying!

Sending much love from the Earth Kite surfing Team.

We look forward to seeing you all soon.

Take Care til then.

Aaron, Fiona, Tully and the Team at Earth.

Wind Wing

What is Wind Wing

Wing Foiling aka Wing Ding, Wing Surf or Hand Wing.
A cross between Windsurfing & Kitesurfing, this new sport is growing fast. You can ride the Wing anywhere, ocean, water, even your local footpath with a skateboard.
Come and see how much fun and easy this awesome sport is.
Now you can Learn the Wing under the guidance of Earth Kite Surfing School.

Anyone can lift a wing into the air and catch the passing wind. If the breeze is too strong, or you are uncomfortable with the power, you can simply hold on to the front of the wing with one hand and let the wind pass by. Once the kite is in the air, it is game-on in terms of focus, concentration and power — until the Kite is safely landed.
For many, there is something nerve-racking about having a Kite in the air constantly offering pull, power and the potential for an adrenaline overload. With the Wing Ding, all of these nerves fly away.
This allows easier accessibility for people who might not like such an adrenaline-inducing experience as the kite. If one does not like what is happening with the Wind Wing, they can simply lie down on their board and paddle to safety.

Much of the beauty of surfing is that all you need is a board and a leash. There is a certain freedom in that simplicity. In terms of equipment, the Wing Ding is not quite as free as surfing, but it is closer to freedom than the kite or the windsurfer. The Wing Ding is two detached pieces of equipment that can be put to rest at any moment.

Depending on your previous experience you can learn the Wing and ride a skate board ( or our all terrain board ) initially on land, then progress to a board in the water, SUP, and if you want to go further you can move onto a foil.

From here the progression is endless, a rider can also use a smaller, faster foil and board that require more wind and speed. There is an entire world in between these ends of the spectrum that offer different kinds of riding, be it waves, flat water, wakes of ships, light wind, heavy wind, etc.

Book your lesson today.

Gift Vouchers

This is a great way to share a little love to someone you love. Give them the gift of adventure. Kitesurfing and Hydro Foil Gift Vouchers available.

With restrictions in place here this is a good way to secure your spot for a lesson when we are ready to go!

Please get in touch if you have any questions.

Thank you

2019/2020 Season Wrap

As the seasons begin to change we thought it was time to put paper to pen and write a little Hello.
What a wonderful Season we have had, this has been our third season building our little family business and it was very busy which is amazing, also challenging rewarding, tiring and exhilarating.
We love meeting new people encouraging locals and just seeing you all enjoy the great outdoors.
Thanks so much to all of you for being a part of Earth Kite-Surfing School.
Consistently we had winds the whole of summer, which can be unusual.
Kicking off the season in September we had our first ever ‘Weekend Workshop’, this was a great chance for us to offer a condensed learning experience to our clients. Helping to boost our clients Kite Skills and confidence right from the start of the windy season.
One of the most exciting things we wish to highlight about this season was the age range of clients we have had, from an amazing 73year old lady ‘Cookie’ from USA right through to 8-year-old Blake Duncan from New Zealand. Seeing the determination and stoke in their faces and partners or parents was fabulous. This just goes to show that age is no barrier.
We have had a great team of Instructors over the busy peak summer period, Mylene from France and Brad from Western Australia, thank you so much to these legends helping us to keep the stoke alive. Also now we have some local guys who passed their IKO Instructor Course here in Ballina in February.
Covid-19 has well and truly arrived on our shores now so we hope you are all going OK with the disruption of life as we knew it, our business slowed right off but luckily it came right at the end of the season. It is a very challenging time for a lot of people, so we wish you all well.
Now we are focusing on getting back on track for the coming season and into enjoy winter here at home on the Northern Rivers, NSW.

At this stage all International Travel Plans are on hold, this includes Aaron working for Ben Wilson in Fiji, coaching in Vanuatu, Queensland Kite Trip in September and NZ family reunions and Snow boarding. However if restrictions lift things will change. We remain optimistic.

However we have some exciting projects we will be working on over the coming months, a new IG TV series via Instagram YOUtube channel where we will be offering tips and information on Kiting and all our interests here at Earth Kite-surfing.

Thank you so much once again for being a part of our Kite-Surfing School and we hope you are keeping up with your kiting and enjoying the ocean or waterways near your home. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch we love hearing from you all.

We are OPEN so please give us a call if you are interested in taking more lessons, the weather is chillier but we have great NEW wetsuits.

Amazing Weekend Workshop

We were totally blessed with AMAZING conditions for our first ever Weekend Workshop. 21 & 22nd September 2019.

The focus of the weekend was to improve kiting skills and get up and riding confidently ready for the up coming season. Also improve existing skills and reach personal goals whether flat water or surf kite flying & riding.

Four Lucky candidates on the first day, got an amazing Flat Water location in Ballina to practice their skills, gain confidence and fly for a few hours consecutively. The wind gods were on our side thankfully.

We started both days with a stretch session from Fiona Duncan Pilates
We had a range of skill levels within our clients, three were learning to get up on the board and practice their kite control while one client Jack was practicing his surf board riding skills and some more advanced tricks.

We had three instructors and a few water crafts to collect the crew and make sure they had maximum time up and riding.

After a few hours everyone was pretty tired and we headed home day one complete.

Second day a few less people ( due to commitments ) and we started the sessions at the beach, practicing kite launching and landing for some while others were out in the waves progressing their skills with the watchful eyes of Instructors Beau Blake and Aaron Smith, Earth’s principal Instructor.

Then we headed to the Flat water again so we could build on skills learned from the previous day.

Everyone was pretty tired after such a long time Kiting over two days but everyone felt the benefit of spending a decent amount of time working on their Kite Control and board riding skills. Confidence was built and smiles were aplenty.

We all learned alot and from us at Earth Kitesurfing, thank you for coming along we hope you will continue to Fly & glide fast and smooth.

Meet our Instructor Sandra Bostjancic

Over Summer we had Sandra working with us, she is a young european girl who is living her dream. She is an amazing Kiter and a very experienced and patient teacher. We were lucky to have her help us out. Here is a little about her and the wonderful life she has created for herself. Introducing Sandra

My name is Sandra, I was born in 1993, on 12th of May. I am from a tiny little country called Slovenia that most people never hear of. Most people have hear of Venice, Italy. Well, my home town Ljubljana is three hour drive away.

I started kiteboarding in Teneriffe, Canary islands. My parents took me on windsurfing holidays when I was 12 years old, but I wanted to do something ‘’cooler’’ than windsurfing – that’s how I and my sister started kiteboarding. My parents got hooked as well and in the next couple of years I and my family would travel to different kite destinations around the world just to enjoy this sport. I am super thankful to my parents for making my dreams come true and support me in every possible way. My dream was to become a professional kiteboarder and I entered a few competitions but decided to finish my education first and that crushed my dream. I only decided to become an  official instructor two years ago because I was granted an instructor position on Maui, Hawaii for half a year and it seemed as a great way to travel. Teaching people how to do sports is my passion as I’m coming from ski instructing background. I enjoy getting more people hooked on this sport as it completely changes your lifestyle! All you can think about after getting into the sport is where and when you can travel to find the best wind and waves/flat water.

My favourite thing about kiteboarding… it’s changing through the years. I used to be a complete adrenaline junky and would enjoy the rush I got when I landed a new trick.I still enjoy that now but I also really appreciate the local kite community and friends you make along the way. To every new spot I travel I instantly make a connection with people that enjoy the same sport as I.

Before coming to Australia I was aware there is a big surfing community there but was expecting at least as big of a kiteboarding community. However I was surprised to find the best kite spots I’ve seen in my life totally empty, with maybe one or two kiteboarders here and there. Or even a completely empty spot! Coming from Europe where the good kiteboarding spots are super overcrowded this seemed like paradise. I think there are great opportunities for this sport to develop further as Australia have quite high standard of living. I think the problem here is the strong surfing community – a lot of good surfers are not willing to learn something new as they are already good at one sport. But they don’t see the advantage of using the wind to catch the waves when the conditions are not as good for wave surfing. I think it would be great if we could open more kitesurfing schools around Australia and grow this amazing sport.

Ben Wilson Kite Weeks FIJI

Bula

Last winter Aaron, Earth’s Head coach and owner had the pleasure to be invited to be an Instructor at the famous Ben Wilson Kite Weeks at Namotu Island Fiji

These camps are for Ocean lovers, lovers of Kitesurfing, Surfing, Snorkeling, SUP, Fishing and Foil Surfing and Kiting.

Basically you wake up do yoga, eat and play in the ocean all day. The weather conditions dictate which craft you can learn or perfect your skills on. With naps and delicious food in-between, then finish the day with sunset beers and a boogie. What a dream day huh!

Ben Wilson handpicks coaches that show skills in a diverse range of water sports. They must also have the correct credentials to meet Ben’s high standards.

It has been a fantastic opportunity for Aaron to meet Ben, other coaches and teach on an Internationally World renowned resort such as Namotu, FIJI.

If you are interested in joining any camps please check them out  Link here

Enjoy the amazing photo’s & video’s taken by world renowned photographer Stuart Gibson.

bB TALKIN waterproof intercom

G’day

Here in Lennox Head at Earth Kitesurfing School we are thrilled to be using Bb TALKIN waterproof intercom for our lessons.

This technology is allowing us to take our kite surf coaching to the next level, Bb talkin is a real time coaching tool which allows the coach to instantly provide feedback and guidance to the student.

The benefits of this High Tech communication system are exceptional.

Coaches no longer have to yell, or have their voice drifting away with the wind, for example from the shoreline, jet ski or boat. Communication distance is 1 mile ( 1600m ). Awesome!

When you book a lesson at Earth Kitesurfing you will get the bonus of using this system as a part of our Lesson Packages!

Thanks for tuning in.

Trainer Kite Evening 6 October 2017

Hola!

Thank you to everyone that came to our very first Trainer Kite evening and Launching of our Kite School. It was so awesome to see so many of our friends their families and interested kite flyers having a go!

It was a beautiful evening with perfect wind for the Trainer Kites, a little too weak for the big kites though! Flying the Trainer Kites is a perfect way to get a feel for the kite and learn the basics of Kite Flying ( wind windows etc ).

We had all ages having a go with the youngest being just over 2 years, and the oldest ha ha well I am not sure!
We are holding the next one on Saturday 2nd December.

We hope to see you along at the Lennox Head Surf Club from 3 pm – 6pm, 2 December 2017.

Thank you

The Earth Kitesurfing School
